A Taste of Literacy fundraising breakfast is an annual event that inspires guests as they learn about LCNV's work to promote literacy in the Greater Washington Area and hear accounts of the challenges faced by families and adults who are not able to read, write or speak in English. This year, for the safety of our guests and the community, LCNV transformed our in-person “A Taste of Literacy” fundraising breakfast into a virtual event.
“A Taste of Literacy: A Virtual Event During Unconventional Times” will include videos and messages from our staff and learners sharing the challenges English language learners face today and every day and inspiring stories of perseverance. We are excited for this opportunity to be able to convey these inspiring stories and LCNV’s effective programs even more broadly than we could in person.
As you can imagine, this crisis only highlights the importance of language education for learners who often work in unskilled and low wage jobs. 80% of our learners live below 200% of the federal poverty line and represent many of those who are out of work or who are required to be at work without resources for health or childcare. Be our guest as you hear the important accounts of the challenges faced by families and adults who are not able to read, write or speak in English.
At this virtual event, you can experience at your own pace, learn about how you can support LCNV and our efforts to offer equity and opportunity to English language learners around the region, and win fun prizes! RSVP today!
