Summer 2021: Introduction from the Executive Director

Greetings,

We made it! Not just through another school year, but a global pandemic that took us all by surprise. After over 16 months of all virtual classes, we are finally going to offer in-person classes again this coming fall. While online classes can be beneficial for a variety of reasons, such as learning or teaching from the comfort of your home, I know many of us are looking forward to seeing each other face to face again, especially after so long. LCNV staff members have already been coming into the office to prepare classes for the fall so students and teachers will be able to interact safely and comfortably. The 59th Annual Recognition Ceremony is coming up on September 1 and will be our first live event in almost two years!

I want to again thank everyone who has shown their support for LCNV throughout these difficult times. In just a single year, LCNV offered 97 online classes to 1387 adults! Without the help of our donors, instructors, staff and volunteers, we would not have made it this far. You have all contributed in unique and creative ways that have allowed us to keep going. I have been inspired by the focus and determination everyone has shown throughout the year while facing the many challenges of the pandemic not just in the classroom but also at home. Both LCNV instructors and learners quickly adjusted to virtual classes and still had smiles on their faces during class!

While virtual classes have kept us going, we have all eagerly anticipated the release of a vaccine against COVID-19 so we can return to in-person activities and regain a sense of normalcy.  We hope as more of the population becomes vaccinated, our partner sites will re-open so our learners can safely return to class.

In this newsletter, we highlight our accomplishments of the past year, from our fundraiser, A Taste of Literacy, which was held virtually at the end of March, to the recent enhancements to our Intensive English and Work Readiness program. We include information about our upcoming classes and events, instructor opportunities, and other ways to continue showing your support! We are also so pleased to welcome new staff members to LCNV.

I am proud of what we have accomplished together and optimistic about what the next year has in store for us! In the meantime, I hope you can relax, enjoy the warm weather, and reunite with friends and family as much as possible. You deserve it!

Best,

Roopal Mehta Saran,
Executive Director
